Tipping culture and policies differ hugely across the world, often confusing or unclear it can be a tricky area for both customers and business owners to navigate. This week the UK government announced plans to make sure bosses in restaurants and cafes hand over “all tips” to staff. In the UK currently most restaurants follow a voluntary code when it comes to tipping, with no legal obligation to pass on 100% of tips. Whilst we’re always in favour of any policy that improves clarity and transparency, there’s no need to wait for a new law. Putting a policy in place, making it widely available and sticking to it will get you ahead of the game.
