World Food Day 2020

World Food Day 2020

Today marks World Food Day which is calling for global cooperation to help make food systems more resilient and robust. The day serves to highlight how food systems need to be able to withstand increasing volatility and climate shocks, deliver healthy and sustainable diets for all, and decent livelihoods for food system workers. It feels appropriate that this day comes so closely after The Nobel Peace Prize 2020 was awarded to the World Food Programme “for its efforts to combat hunger, for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas and for acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict.” A powerful reminder of the role and importance of food in contributing to a peaceful, sustainable planet.
